Couples in Brighton and Hove who are undergoing interpersonal or marital challenges can now receive couples therapy from a Hove based psychotherapist following the launch of a dedicated relationship counselling website by The Hove Counselling Practice.
The website https://thehovecounsellingpractice.co.uk/hove-relationship-counselling/ enables unhappy couples in Brighton and Hove to avail themselves of confidential and specialized counselling and support to tackle issues within their marriage, loss of connection or intimacy and difficulties in their interpersonal communication.
The service is being offered in recognition of the fact that couples in search of counselling and therapy are commonly well past that rosy “honeymoon period of being in-love”. They have reached a level of familiarity with each other where they start to get irritated by each other’s foibles and personal habits. In turn, these irritations can engender deep rooted negative reactions which can herald serious problems for the relationship.
BACP accredited psychotherapist and couples counsellor, Claire Sainsbury, says she hopes the couples counselling site will site will be to be of invaluable assistance to people experiencing interpersonal disharmony, lack of intimacy, loss of love or affection, or general marital discontent. https://rcl.ink/vfj
“Couples are seldom cognizant of how or why they may be affecting or influencing each other.” says Sainsbury “as they often haven’t had the opportunity to comprehend how their personal life-scripts are playing out with their loved one. They may not have considered how their experience of childhood relationships might be impacting the adult relationships they develop”. Sainsbury continues to say that this can be intriguing to people as they embark on “joining a few dots” for themselves, bringing clarity to some of their own interpersonal difficulties.
The Hove couples counselling website will equip couples in recognising that they may have basically different ways of perceiving the world which may be in conflict with each other’s expectations. It may empower couples to accept such individual differences and thereafter ameliorate interpersonal communication to bring about a more harmonious relationship.
The new couples counsellor resource also provides a gateway to providing help for couples in and around Brighton and Hove who are dealing with the aftermath, or revelation, of infidelity or other betrayal of trust.
“For many couples experiencing discord in their relationships” says Sainsbury “it can be hard to imagine how counselling may be beneficial, especially when a relationship is struggling and partners are full of anger or despair, feeling disillusioned or even ambivalent about seeking help”.
“The main value in a therapeutic process”, says Sainsbury, “is insight and understanding about the aspects of relating that are generally out of conscious awareness. When these factors are made more conscious, individuals can make more sense of what is happening within their relational world. Their minds may be opened to thought patterns and actions that can enhance relating and galvanise a positive path of growth with their partner. Many couples feel enlightened by the process of couples therapy and, although the work may be challenging at times, people are generally happier”.
Claire Sainsbury first became interested in working with couples following several years experience of addressing relational difficulties within the families of people suffering with different addictions, personality disorders and eating disorders. Her experience of working in different settings with a variety of client groups, as well as dedicated training in working with couples, has provided useful insight for this complex relational field.
